Gardai in Terenure are questioning a taxi-driver in connection with an alleged serious sexual assault against three young women in Dublin city early this morning.

The three women, all aged 20-years-of-age, were allegedly sexually assaulted at a flat in Rathmines by a man armed with a scissors at around 1 a.m., according to garda sources. The women were held in the flat for approximately four hours, the source added.

A man in his mid thirties, is being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He was arrested in Rathfarnham this afternoon and can be held for 12 hours after which he must be charged or released.

The women are understood to have reported the incident at 6 a.m.
