The president of the Irish Taxi Federation, Mr John Ussher, said last night his members would decide on their next course of action after they see the response of the three Co Dublin local authorities to the issuing of 200 new taxi licences by Dublin Corporation.
Mr Ussher said the mood of a meeting of the members to discuss the decision was "very angry".
The decision to issue 200 licences for wheelchair accessible taxis was welcomed by the Progressive Democrat spokeswoman on equality and law reform, Ms Helen Keogh. However, she called for an improved strategy for late night public transport in Dublin.
