Dublin Corporation intends to start a new taxi-sharing scheme and hopes it will be in place before Christmas. It has submitted plans to the other local authorities in Dublin for approval.
The scheme would be a pilot project operating on the College Green rank, opposite Trinity College, which normally has long queues.
Under the plan there would be a queue for those prepared to share and one for those wishing to travel unaccompanied.
