Taxi drivers' union leaders are to meet taxi regulator Ger Deering on Monday to discuss their concerns about the new fares due to come in this month.

A meeting of the three main taxi unions scheduled for Monday, at which the question of further protests by drivers was due to be debated, has been deferred until Tuesday at the earliest. The new regulatory structure and fare changes come into force on September 25th.

A major protest by taxi drivers led to significant congestion in Dublin on Monday. Taxi drivers have also warned that they will target the Ryder Cup and Dublin airport on September 25th.

The Department of Transport only agreed to meet with the National Taxi Drivers' Union, Siptu and the Taxi Drivers' Federation earlier this week after they cancelled a planned 24-hour protest due to take place yesterday.
