People living in rural areas with poor public transport facilities should be issued with taxi vouchers to help them get around, according to a new Oireachtas committee report.
The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Arts, Sport, Tourism, Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs is today discussing a report on rural transport provision.
The report recommends that a new statutory transport authority with responsibility for delivery of rural transport should be established. This body should dispense taxi vouchers to people in need, it said.
