Sport:In the Sport Sentiment Index 2012, a survey looking to ascertain favourite moments, teams and individuals over the past 12 months amongst the Irish public highlighted the huge impression that Ireland's Olympians and Paralympians made on the strength of their achievements in London.
Katie Taylor ran away with the Greatest Irish Sporting moment of 2012 with 60 per cent of those interviewed opting for the Bray lightweight boxer’s gold medal performance in the ring at the London Olympics. She was followed home by the display of the Irish Paralympians (17%), All Ireland Senior Football champions, Donegal (6%) with Heineken Cup champions, Leinster and USPGA winner Rory McIlroy tied on five per cent.
In the Team of the Year category, the public plumped for the Irish Paralympians who won 17 medals in London (38%), followed by the Irish Olympic boxers who won four medals (23%), Donegal (14%) and Leinster (11%).
The Sports Sentiment Index was carried out by Pembroke Communications in conjunction with leading research agency Ignite Research. The research was conducted among a nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults aged 18-65, with quotas imposed on gender, region, age and social class.
