A case where a child was claiming damages against a teacher for allegedly assaulting him was settled in the Cork Circuit Court yesterday.

The child, now aged nine, alleged that on January 14th, 1994, he was "pushed, shoved and manhandled and received a severe wrenching of his head" by a teacher, which resulted in a whiplash-type injury.

The settlement was presented to Judge Patrick Moran. The teacher, through his INTO representative, denied the allegation.

Later, Judge Moran made an order restraining all media organisations from publishing, printing or putting into the public domain the names and addresses of the parties to the proceedings or of the school or the amount of settlement approved by the court.
