A 60-YEAR-OLD Co Clare schoolteacher yesterday appeared in court charged with committing 14 sexual offences involving a then 15-year-old girl.

Thirteen of the alleged offences occurred in two separate rooms of a Co Clare school between September and November of last year.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was making his second appearance in court on the charges, and is facing nine counts of sexually exploiting and five of defiling the girl.

The man is facing seven counts of sexually exploiting the girl at the school on dates between September 15th and October 20th last year, contrary to Section 3 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998.

The girl turned 16 during the period of the alleged offences and the man is facing two additional counts of sexually exploiting the girl in November last year at the school.

On his first appearance in court last month, the man secured bail after Insp Tom Kennedy said there was no objection to bail on condition that the man provided his own bond of €5,000 and an independent surety of €10,000.

As part of his bail conditions, the man has surrendered his passport, is signing each Wednesday at a Garda station and residing at the address in his charge sheet.

The accused was ordered to have no contact, direct or indirect, with the alleged injured party or any witnesses in the case.

The case was adjourned to yesterday for the serving of a book of evidence.

However, Insp John Galvin sought another adjournment to Shannon District Court on September 16th.

Judge Joseph Mangan remanded the man on conditional bail to that date.
