The following is a selection of quotes from CSID chairman and chief executive, Mr Paddy Teahon, in the last two months:

•I have said that figure consistently for well over a year and I am saying it again. I am prepared to stake my reputation. I worked for a long time in the Irish public service, in particular on social partnership and the peace process - I'm staking that reputation - that if the Government gives the go-ahead, we will deliver the project for £350 million.

- On RTÉ News on February 1st.

•"Certainly not" - Mr Teahon's response when asked on March 20th if he had any intention of resigning. ". . . Because I have done nothing wrong."

•I regret at this juncture that I did not use the word dormant. People have attached considerable significance to the word dormant . . . I did not see dormancy as the issue. The issue as far as I saw it was that we had a consortium with whom we could contract

- Expressing regret that he had not told CSID's assessment panel that Waterwold UK was a dormant company. He made the comments on the evening of March 20th as he made his way into a meeting with the Minister for Sport, Dr McDaid.

•We were operating to a very tight timescale . . . If I am to be found guilty of enthusiasm I am happy to admit to being enthusiastic.

- Speaking again on March 20th after Dr McDaid suggested "some corners were cut".

•My communication on the matter was inadequate. I have accepted that and I am prepared to accept that I made a misjudgment in not giving fuller reports and informations. I will not accept, however, any suggestion, from any source, that my actions were designed with any dishonest or improper motivation in mind.

- Speaking at his first appearance before the Public Accounts Committee on Thursday, March 21st, to defend his actions in the awarding of contracts to run the €62 million national aquatic centre.

•I did not know any of the three people before they became involved in the project. I have never met any of them. I have no connection with any of their families.

- Statement to PAC on March 21st in response to suggestions by Labour Party TD Mr Pat Rabbitte that he had conspired to divert public money to people on no basis other than that they were from Kerry.

•I regret any embarrassment that has arisen because I did not use the word dormant. My purpose at all times was to handle this matter as efficiently and as expeditiously as possible but I now accept that if I had explained the position fully . . . then much if not all of the concerns that have arisen in the recent past could have been avoided.

- Addressing the PAC on March 21st.

•I basically did not feel I had to tell them.

- Reply when asked at a PAC hearing on March 22nd why he did not tell the Departments of the Taoiseach and Finance that a second contract had been awarded to Magahy & Company for executive services for the entire Campus and Stadium Ireland Development.

•The proposition was put to me and I agreed to it.

- Speaking after the Cabinet decided he should step aside as chairman and chief executive.
