Gardaí have said a technical examination of a vintage tractor involved in a fatal incident in Meath will form part of their inquiry.
“While this was a tragic accident, we will be doing a full PSV mechanical examination of the tractor as part of our investigation,” said a Garda spokesperson. One of the possibilities being explored is that one of the brakes on the tractor, believed to be a Nutfield from the late 1950s or early 1960s, may have locked, causing it to go out of control.
The vehicle was part of a convoy of 71 vintage tractors taking part in a charity drive in Kilmainhamwood, Meath, when the incident happened at about 5pm on Sunday causing the death of Gráinne Gilsenan (22), from Kilmainhamwood. She wanted to be a social worker, and according to parish priest Fr John Cooney had been studying at Dundalk Institute of Technology.
