Teenager (16) charged over Antrim assault

A 16-year-old has appeared in court in Northern Ireland charged with the attempted murder of a 15-year-old boy.

A 16-year-old has appeared in court in Northern Ireland charged with the attempted murder of a 15-year-old boy.

The victim was allegedly hit on the head with a hatchet when he was attacked close to Greystone Primary School on the Greystone Road in Antrim on Friday at 11.30 p.m. The boy is in a critical condition in hospital.

The charged youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody to Lisnevin Detention Centre.

It is reported that, when charged, the youth replied: "I wasn't involved".

He is due to appear in court again, via a video link, on 25th September.

There are three juveniles and two 17-year-olds still being questioned in relation to Friday night's assault.
