A teenager was today found guilty of a drunken prank in which he sprayed fire extinguisher foam over a petrol-station forecourt.

The boy's parents have been ordered to pay €50 compensation on his behalf.

The teenager (17) is in custody on serious charges in a separate case.

At the Dublin Children's Court today, Judge Geoffrey Browne was told the boy had been in custody since April, that he was due before the Circuit Court soon in a separate case and could be facing a long sentence.

Garda Damien Kirwan said the boy was arrested at 3.25 a.m. on March 31st last after he had caused a disturbance at a petrol station. Garda Kirwan said that he had been on patrol in the Crumlin area and was called to deal with a group of youths causing trouble at the Shell Petrol Station on the Parnell Road.

The boy had taken a fire extinguisher from the petrol station and was spraying it around the forecourt. He was very drunk at the time and was shouting obscenities as he sprayed the area with foam, the court heard.

The boy was charged under section four and six of the Public Order Act, for being intoxicated to such an extent that he was a danger to himself and others and for engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour, which he admitted.

The court heard the boy had "no previous convictions on record" but was in custody and awaiting trial at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for a separate "serious offence".
