A 16-year-old was arrested for questioning today in connection with a serious sexual assault on a woman in Tralee, Co Kerry.
The youth, who was arrested by gardai at his home in Tralee at about 8.30am, was the third person to be detained for questioning in relation to the attack.
The assault is alleged to have occurred after 1am on Wednesday, October 19th, in the Boherbee/St Patrick's bungalows area near Tralee town centre. The teenager is being held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act and can be detained for up to 12 hours before being charged or released. Last week, two other young men were arrested under section 4 of the act on suspicion of rape.
A garda spokeswoman said: "The two men were released and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions." There have been four sexual assaults in Tralee in recent months, including attacks on a middle-aged woman, a teenage girl, a young man and a young woman.
However, gardai do not believe the latest attack is related to the previous assaults.
