A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old boy in Ennis on Saturday night.
Michael Doherty of Ashline, Ennis, Co Clare was stabbed in the chest outside Supermac's fast-food restaurant before 11pm.
The 17-year-old local youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken in for questioning by gardaí yesterday and appeared in Gort District court at 11am charged in connection with the fatal stabbing.
He was charged with producing an object, or article, likely to cause serious injury, during a dispute on O'Connell Street, Ennis on Saturday. He was released on bail and is due to appear in Ennis District Court on Friday.
Michael was a second-year student at Ennis Community College and had one brother and eight sisters. He was the eldest son.
