A teenager has been rescued from the water in the Dublin docklands as preparations are being made for the Tall Ships festival.

The 15-year-old got into difficulty in Hanover quay and was pulled to safety by fire officers called to the scene.

It is understood the boy had to be resuscitated at the quayside before being taken to hospital.

The incident occurred at about 1.40pm today.

The teenager was taken by ambulance to St Vincent's Hospital.

He is believed to have been preparing to take part in events at the Tall Ships festival as part of the Kings of Concrete group which was asked to curate an urban zone at the event with skateboarding and biking displays.

Later, organisers of the Dublin leg of the Tall Ships said the teen was not preparing for his volunteer work when the accident happened.
