THE RUC is continuing to treat as suspicious the death of a teenager in Keady, Co Armagh, whose partially clothed body was found on waste ground. The parents of Mr Paul McGleenan (19), yesterday said they were "totally devastated".
Mr McGleenan's body was found on Tuesday below the old Keady Hill railway bridge by a woman out walking. Some of his clothing was discovered nearby. He had bruising to his face. Mr McGleenan was involved in a dispute in a pub on New Year's Eve, shortly before he was last seen alive. A post mortem examination has established that he died from a head injury.
An RUC spokesman has appealed for anyone with information on the victim's last movements to come forward.
Mr McGleenan's parents, Frank and Pauline, said they could not believe that their son was dead. "We just cannot accept it. We are totally devastated by what has happened." The couple, who run the Shandon Bells pub in Keady, have six other sons. Mr McGleenan worked as a tiler and part time barman.
An SDLP councillor, Mr Tommy Kavanagh, said he did not believe Mr McGleenan could have fallen from the bridge wall and ended up where he was found.
Requiem Mass will take place tomorrow at St Patrick's Church in Keady. Mr McGleenan will be buried in the cemetery across the road.
Meanwhile, the funeral will take place today of Mr Ian Lyons (31), shot dead in Lurgan, Co Armagh, on Monday. While Direct Action Against Drugs has claimed responsibility, alleging he was a drug dealer, the IRA is widely believed to have been involved. Mr Lyons's family has denied the allegations.
Requiem Mass will be held at St Paul's church in Lurgan. Mr Lyons will be buried in St Colman's cemetery.
