A Dublin teenager was yesterday remanded in custody after a court was told he threatened to have his mother and gardaí shot.
The 17-year-old was brought before the Dublin Children's Court charged with making threats to kill his mother and gardaí.
He was also charged with making threats to criminally damage his home and for failing to attend a previous court case.
The boy's mother was in court but was not called to give evidence.
However, Garda Michael Ryan, of Ballymun Station, said that he was seeking to have the teenager remanded in custody on the grounds of threats he made "that we are taking seriously". At that point the teenager called the garda a "scumbag" and was warned by Judge Miriam Malone that he had to calm down.
Garda Ryan then told the court it was alleged that in the early hours of yesterday the accused stated, in relation to his mother: "If she has me charged I will burn the house down, I'll f***ing kill her you watch me, you watch me."
Garda Michael Ryan stated that in relation to threats against gardaí the boy said: "I will f***ing burn the gaff down; it takes 15 of them for one 17-year-old. I will have the shooters out and burn that Garda car."
He also said: "You are a dead man; I will get the shooters out to you," the court was told.
Defence solicitor John Quinn said the boy, who is on a training course, was not denying the threats but they had been borne out of frustration at not being let into his home.
Judge Miriam Malone said there was serious evidence which the boy had not denied.
She was satisfied that "the threats were of a serious nature; the teenager had nowhere to reside and had also taken a bench warrant previously. She remanded him in custody for one week to St Patrick's Institution.
