A bomb exploded on a public bus in the northern Israeli city of Haifa on Sunday, killing at least 10 people and wounding dozens.

Police and witnesses at first said blasts had ripped through two buses but later said that a powerful explosion on one bus had severely damaged another parked nearby.

The explosion took place little more than 12 hours after Palestinian militants carried out a double suicide bombing and car bombing in Jerusalem that killed 10 Israelis and wounded 150.

"The bombing tore through a bus in central Haifa. A bus travelling toward the downtown area suffered a huge blast, and I can tell you there were seven dead on that bus," Haifa police officer Mr Yehuda Maman said.
