Ten people were arrested and a number of gardaí were injured after a late night brawl broke out in the main street in Ennis, Co Clare.

Gardaí were called at around 2.40 a.m. after around 30 people, mostly teenagers, began fighting on O’Connell Street. Initial Garda efforts to contain the fighting proved insufficient and reinforcements were called.

At least two gardaí sustained slight injuries in the altercation which led to ten arrests.

A file on the incident is being prepared and will be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Meanwhile, a man in his mid-20s was taken to Beaumont Hospital suffering from facial lacerations after a stabbing on the main street in Swords, Co Dublin.

A 21-year-old man was arrested after the incident and a knife was recovered.
