The Employment Appeals Tribunal is to hear claims by 1,419 employees of Tesco that they are entitled to written contracts under the Terms of Employment (Information) Act, 1994.
Yesterday the tribunal heard submissions from Tesco and Mandate, the trade union representing the workers.
Mandate had hoped that the tribunal would hear a number of test cases but it has decided that each employee will have to apply individually. The dispute dates back three years to a time when the workers were employees of Powers Supermarkets. A spokesperson for Tesco says that staff are now issued with contracts.
The tribunal will begin hearing the cases on August 30th.
