The winners in the 58th Texaco children’s art competition received their prizes from the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan in Dublin yesterday. The competition, which began in 1955, had more than 26,000 entries this year.
Among the winners were:
Category A (16 to 18 years): Aleksandra Fudali (St Brogan’s College, Bandon, Co Cork);
Ally Nolan (St Leo’s College, Carlow); Siobhán McBrearty (St Columba’s College, Stranorlar, Co Donegal)
Category B (14 to 15 years):
Shania McDonagh (Mount St Michael Secondary School, Claremorris, Co Mayo); Frances Treanor (St Louis Convent Secondary School, Monaghan, Co Monaghan); Enya King (St Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel, Co Down)
Category C (12 to 13 years):
Eimear McMahon (Our Lady’s College, Drogheda, Co Louth); Holly Duce (Bulgaden National School, Kilmallock Co Limerick); Maria Canavan (St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon, Co Tyrone)
Category D (9 to 11 years):
