The boys from Ballydung

Enigmatic TV presenters Podge and Rodge are happy to answer personal questions at their inaugural press conference in Dublin

Enigmatic TV presenters Podge and Rodge are happy to answer personal questions at their inaugural press conference in Dublin. Under tight security at Club Anabel in the Burlington Hotel, they speak about their love of the midlands, their love of Grainne Seoighe on TV3 and their use of bad language. They also list some of the censored films in their private video collection.

The two brothers from Ballydung in the midlands, speaking over a specially-constructed counter, deny reports that they plan to move to Hollywood in the US following the worldwide release of their new video, A Scare at Bedtime3.

They tell reporters they are currently in negotiation with Sony Music to do an album and Rodge speaks publicly about this meat technician girlfriend, Sadie, for the first time.

"She's not for me, my brother says," he tells reporters sadly.

"They don't seem right," Podge explains.

However Rodge does seem to cheer up at the mention of Mary Clare O'Siochru, of Sony Music, who is present at the launch, smiling lovingly up at the two stars.

Members of the press corps who want to ask a question are required to signal for the official microphone from Today FM star Ray D'Arcy, "the housewives' favourite, who has become a household name". David Moore, from Portmarnock, the composer of their hit single, Colosto u, Colostu me, spoke about "the stuff I don't include in the songs . . . you've no idea".

Ronan McCabe, the man behind the two stars, says they will be undertaking a massive promotional tour shortly. To date they've starred on the BBC UK Play satellite station, as well as appearing regularly on Network 2.

Others spotted at the conference include former international rugby star Neil Francis; Richie Ryan, of Aware, the national depression support group, Billy McGrath, of RTE, and John Sheehan, of Sony Music. Afterwards, Buzz O'Neill, who went to school with Podge, speaks briefly about the upcoming dance fest, Winter Party, which will take place next Saturday in Mosney. Up to 6,000 people are expected to attend the party which will take place under a circus tent from Fossett's. O'Neill hopes the event will also feature fire-eaters, jugglers and a trapeze artist.
