As an anthology this is to be commended, since it brings together many of the classics of the genre, by Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, Hans Andersen, Oscar Wilde, etc. You can argue about some of the other inclusions, though Anne Sexton's poem about Snow White is an imaginative choice. What often seems redundant are the pages of "overviews" by Bruno Bettleheim, Marina Warner, Donald Haase, et alii. Some of them are genuinely thought-provoking, but others seem tendentious, humourless and even slightly obtuse.
