Thursday, May 3rd: Madeleine vanishes from the holiday apartment her family had rented in the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, while parents Kate and Gerry McCann have dinner with friends at a nearby tapas bar.
Friday, May 4th: The McCanns issue an emotional plea for Madeleine's return.
Saturday, May 5th: Detectives say they believe she was abducted but is still alive and in Portugal.
Monday, May 7th: Portuguese police say they cannot give the McCanns any assurance that Madeleine is alive or in the Algarve.

Friday, May 25th: Kate and Gerry McCann tell reporters the "guilt" of not being with Madeleine when she was abducted will stay with them. Police release a description of a man seen carrying a child wrapped in a blanket on the night of Madeleine's disappearance.
Wednesday, June 6th: The McCanns deny any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance when questioned about it by a reporter at a press conference in Berlin.
Thursday, June 28th: An Italian man and a Portuguese woman are arrested by Spanish police who suspect the couple of attempting to extort money from the McCanns by offering them information about Madeleine.
Friday, August 3rd: A possible sighting of Madeleine is reported in Belgium. A child therapist claims she saw the girl at a restaurant near the Dutch border. She says the girl was with a Dutch man and an English-speaking woman.
Saturday, August 4th: Police search Robert Murat's house for the second time but find no new evidence.
Monday, August 6th: A Portuguese newspaper reports that British sniffer dogs have found traces of blood on a wall in the apartment Madeleine disappeared from. Another Portuguese paper claims police now believe the girl is dead, having been killed accidentally.
Saturday, August 11th: Police admit for the first time that Madeleine could be dead. Chief Insp Sousa says new evidence had given "intensity" to the possibility she was killed but says the McCanns are not considered suspects.
Friday, August 31st: The McCanns say they will sue a Portuguese newspaper that claims detectives believe they killed their daughter.
Thursday, September 6th: Kate McCann is questioned by detectives at a Portuguese police station.
Friday, September 7th: Mrs McCann emerges after more than 10 hours of questioning and is declared an official suspect or arguido.
