Where are they now?
John Gilligan: Acquitted of the murder of Veronica Guerin (below), he is currently serving a 20-year sentence in Portlaoise Prison for drug dealing.
Earlier this month he was given a further two years for threatening to kill a prison officer. He is due for release in 2013 when he will be 61 years old.
Eugene Patrick 'Dutchy' Holland: Named by a garda in court as the man who fired the bullets that killed Guerin, Holland (66) was earlier this year released from prison after serving nine years of a 12-year sentence for drug dealing. During a garda search last month he was found in a house in Finglas owned by one of the biggest drug dealers in the country.
Charles Bowden: The former soldier with training in firearms was Gilligan's courier in his drugs operation before he turned State witness against his associates after Guerin's murder. He was released from jail in 2001 after his duties as a protected witness were discharged.
Paul Ward: A native of Crumlin, Ward was convicted of Guerin's murder in 1998 after the Special Criminal Court heard he had disposed of the pistol and the motorcycle used in it. However, this conviction was later overturned on appeal. In 1999 he was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a 1997 riot at Mountjoy Prison. He is now free.
Russell Warren: Warren was released from prison in 2001 after giving evidence for the State against members of the Gilligan gang. Like Bowden, he was given funding to establish himself abroad on his release. He was an "accounts clerk" for Gilligan and was given a four-year jail term for his role in money-laundering.
Brian Meehan: In 1999, Meehan (now 41) was convicted of the murder of Veronica Guerin after the Special Criminal Court heard he had driven the motorbike which carried the gunman to and from the murder scene on the Naas Road. In addition to his life sentence for the murder, Meehan also received sentences ranging from five to 20 years for drugs and firearms offences. He is still in Portlaoise Prison.
