TICKETS WILL go on sale next Wednesday for The Script’s first stadium headline concert in their home town of Dublin.
The band, which is one of the biggest international acts to come out of Ireland in recent years, will play the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, July 2nd.
Drummer Glen Power said the homecoming gig would definitely be the pinnacle of the band’s career. People had asked if they were ready to do a such a big stadium gig and “yes, we feel like we are ready for it . . . it will be one of the most amazing gigs in our lifetime”.
Canadian singer Michael Bublé played to 45,000 people when he performed the first gig in the Aviva Stadium on September 24th.
The Script sold out 60,000 tickets in 20 minutes for their Irish tour next March which takes in the 02 in Dublin, the Belfast Odyssey Arena and the Killarney INEC.
Glen Power said many people had missed on tickets for that tour so the band was delighted when they were offered the gig. He was speaking from New York where the multi-platinum selling trio is on tour.
He said things had stepped up another gear since they last toured the US. Although their new album Science and Faithwon't be available over there until next year, many fans had bought it online and were asking the band to sign the album after gigs. Their single Breakevenhas sold more than 1.7 million downloads in the US alone.
“It’s a humbling experience to see how it has grown . . . it’s very surreal.” He said the band had to write the name of the town on their set list each night or they would not remember where they were.
Science and Faithshot to No 1 in the Irish and UK album charts when it was released in September and it achieved platinum status in its first week of release. They will release their new single Nothing on Friday, November 19th.
