There are more than one million Hog members in more than 130 countries and chapters are organised around dealers.
•The Harley-Davidson motor company is called after boyhood friends William Harley and Arthur Davidson, who built their first power motorcycle in 1903. Its HQ is still in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
•Hog was formed in 1983 to build a lasting link between the company and its customers and formed part of the Harley revival at a time when the company almost went bankrupt. The latest Hog chapter opened in Russia this month.
•To be a full member of Hog you must own a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
•The Irish chapter is organised by Waterford Harley-Davidson.
•Prices for Harleys range from around €9,000 to €35,000.
•Chapters from 29 countries are represented at the Killarney event, including members from Italy, Switzerland, South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
•In 1994 the company attempted to trademark the distinctive sound of a Harley-Davidson engine, but withdrew after six years of litigation and objections from competitors.
