The monologue, as a form of dramatic story-telling, is in vogue; witness the success, home and away, of Irish writers Connor McPherson and Mark O'Rowe. Ugandan playwright George Seremba (above) brings his one-man show, Come Good Rain, to the City Arts Centre next week. A creative monologue with a difference, it is his own story, and one that grips like a vice. The author grew up in Uganda during the terrible reigns of Idi Amin and Milton Obote. As a student, he was taken and tortured by Amin's soldiers, and left for dead in a forest. The stark reality of his survival is graphically revealed in a stunning climax to an unforgettable piece of theatre.
