The O'Kane brothers, Michael and Kieran, of Claudy, in Co Derry, have long been celebrated in butchers' circles for the quality of their meat and meat products and, in particular, for their cooked-meat dishes, including an outstanding meat pie. So it is little surprise the brothers are in the running for the UK award of the Best Retail Butchery Shop, but what is noteworthy is the fact that this is the first year the North's butchers have been allowed to compete, so making it through to the final is quite a feat.
