Consumers should benefit from increased competition in the directory enquiries with the entry of the 11890 service which is expected to challenge the two big players, it was claimed today.

The company also announced the creation of up to 150 jobs over the next 18 months at its headquarters in Clonshaugh Industrial Estate in north Dublin.

"For the past decade, the directory enquiries market has been in effect run by two operators," said Nicola Byrne, Managing Director, Call 11890 Ltd. "But this is about to change with the introduction of 11890. Our premise is simple - we're about offering professional and personal customer service at value for money rates."

The newly launched 11890 will not automatically connect customers through to a number, a move aimed at cutting customer charges. However, should callers need to be connected immediately it is a service that can be requested. 11890 also offer free text back to callers from mobile phones as standard.
