Mr John Devane, solicitor for the accused, said that no application for bail would be made until tomorrow.

Judge Gerard Haughton remanded the accused in custody until tomorrow when he is due to appear in court again.

At a special sitting of the court on Sunday two other men were also charged with falsely imprisoning and threatening to kill Mr Romanus. They are Mr Thomas McMahon (24), of Flanker Court, Galvone Road, Limerick, and Mr Raphael Mullally (54) Waterville, Ennis Road, Limerick.

During that hearing Judge Tom O'Donnell heard allegations that Mr Romanus was told that both he and his wife would be shot by the IRA and also that the foreign national was allegedly abducted on January 15th.

The allegations were made as gardaí opposed an application for bail for Mr McMahon.
