A motorcyclist who was killed in Galway on Wednesday night has became the third person to die on the county's roads in 24 hours.

The 20-year-old man was fatally injured when his motorbike hit a barrier just before 10pm at Coole Demesne, Gort.

Emergency services were called, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The latest fatality follows the deaths of Liam Loughlin (19), Lydican, Oranmore, and Niall Greaney (19), Cahernascelleeney, on the N17 at Loughgeorge in Galway.

The two were passengers in a car that crashed into a wall at the Loughgeorge junction of the N17 Galway-Tuam and N63 Galway-Roscommon road at 3.45am on Wednesday.
