Indian soldiers shot dead a dozen separatists, and a civilian was killed in violence in Kashmir today.
Indian forces shot dead six militants at Damhal Hanjipora village in the southern Anantnag district during a fierce encounter that also destroyed a house, a spokesman said.
He said the fighting began after soldiers ringed the village on a tip-off that militants were there.
At Kapran in the same district two more separatists were shot dead during a similar confrontation and a civilian was killed in the cross-fire, police said.
Four more militants were shot dead elsewhere in Kashmir by security forces, police said.
Suspected militants launched a grenade at a security vehicle in Srinagar, Indian Kashmir's summer capital, that missed the target and exploded inside the compound of the High Court.
Another grenade was hurled 10 seconds later and exploded inside an army vehicle by the court, causing minor damage. No one was injured by either of the grenades.
Over 35,000 have been killed since a Muslim separatist revolt began in 1989 against Indian rule in Kashmir.
