Thousands of homes in Dublin were without water for a number of hours today after works on a water main caused a drop in water pressure.
According to a spokewoman for South Dublin County Council, a limited supply has now been restored to houses in the affected areas in West Dublin. However, low water pressure may still continue to effect some residents.
The cut in supply was caused when upgrading works on a Dublin City Council trunk water main caused an unexpected drop in water pressure earlier today.
Fine Gael Dublin spokesman, Senator Brian Hayes, was critical that residents were not given any prior notice of the disruption.
"If a developer knocked off a water supply in similar circumstances the local authority would be obliged to initiate enforcement proceedings immediately. Here we have a case of a public authority leaving an entire community without a water supply for an indefinite period, and most importantly, without prior notice," he said.
