Thousands of music fans are expected to attend the Hi:Fi festival in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, this weekend.

Thousands of music fans are expected to attend the Hi:Fi festival in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, this weekend.

The festival, the first such event to be held at Belvedere House near Mullingar, will host acts including The Prodigy, The Streets, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox and Roger Sanchez.

"The marriage of Hi:Fi's musical talent with the spectacular setting of Belvedere House's landscaped gardens and lakeside setting is going to mean a very special weekend for 25,000 people," said a spokeswoman.

Some 21 hours of live music begins at 2pm on Saturday and runs continuously until 2am on Sunday. It resumes from 5pm on Sunday until 2am the following morning.

Hi:Fi Ireland is a sister festival to the UK's Hi:Fi North and South festivals which take place during May in Newcastle Upon Tyne and

Winchester.

Organisers said an adjacent campsite will be open from midday on Friday, with gates to the arena opening from 1.30pm on Saturday.

Free on-site car parking for the weekend will be provided for Hi:Fi ticket holders, and will be available from midday on Friday.

Special bus and train services will link the venue and Dublin throughout the weekend.

Those attending are urged to bring clothing suitable for all weather and to drink responsibly, organisers said.
