Fifteen thousand people have been marching through Paris against planned mass job cuts by companies including Marks & Spencer.
The protesters marched under the banner "Together Against Layoffs" from the Place de la Republique to Nation, in eastern Paris. Police said that some 15,000 people took part in the demonstration.
The victims of restructuring plans have been increasingly vocal over the past few months, organising numerous demonstrations.
Personnel from some 30 companies planning lay-offs were present at the march, from Marks & Spencer to AOM-Air Liberte, Moulinex and Lu-Danone.
Members of the Communist Party and the extreme left were present in large numbers at the protest that Communist Party national secretary Robert Hue called "a success.
