Thousands to enjoy all the fun of the fair at Tullamore

Around 40,000 people are expected in Co Offaly for the annual Tullamore Show on Sunday.

Around 40,000 people are expected in Co Offaly for the annual Tullamore Show on Sunday.

This year's show will feature 900 classes and 40 national titles.

The event will be held on the Charleville Estate, a mile outside Tullamore.

There will be over 1,500 head of livestock competing for 40 national championship titles in the pedigree, commercial, dairy and sheep categories and for the AIB National Livestock Show title.

Over 300 machinery and trade stands will be in place. The indoor area had to be increased by 50 per cent to meet demand.

A huge tented village will also house the rural enterprise pavilion and food hall, arts and photography stalls, and cookery and crafts kiosks.

Also featured will be the Royal Horticulture Society of Ireland garden club of the year competition and horse and showjumping events.

There will also be an all-Ireland collection of vegetables competition, an all-Ireland single rose competition, and fashion, stage and dog shows. A French culture group will also be present.

The programme includes foxhound showing, tractor pulling, home baker of the year, American-style arena sheepdog trials, a national invention competition, a rural enterprise promotion and food exhibition, an indoor trade show, and the international sheaf-pitching competition between Ireland and Australia.
