Three anti-US protesters were shot dead by Pakistani police in Kuchlak near the Afghan border as they tried to storm a bank. The crowd attacked a bank and tried to storm a police station. Police responded by firing into the air and at the crowd.

Many people were reported to have been arrested and several injured in a second day of violent anti-US demonstrations in the western Pakistani province of Baluchistan.

Most of protesters, who numbered between 1,000 and 1,500, were Afghan refugees who tried to have shopkeepers shut their shops in the town just north of Quetta, police said. Fights broke out when some Pakistani shopkeepers refused.

Police said the protesters attacked and damaged the bank but guards dispersed them by firing in the air before they could steal any money.

One protester was killed the city of Quetta as violent demonstrations erupted in several Pakistani cities yesterday.

In Quetta crowds of up to 15,000 set fire to the local office of UNICEF and burned down cinemas, a police and a fire station.

The protesters, including religious leaders, students and local politicians, waved clenched fists and shouted "jihad, jihad" during the peaceful rally in Marawi city on the main southern island of Mindanao.

Yesterday, two Palestinians were shot dead during clashes with Palestinian Authority police in the Gaza strip as thousands demonstrated there and in the West Bank in support of Osama bin Laden. A third Palestinian shot at the same time is clinically dead, doctors said.
