Gardai were last night searching for the fourth member of a gang which allegedly carried out raids on shops and pubs in Cos Kilkenny and Carlow. Three men in their 20s are already being held in connection with the incidents.

A Garda spokesman said that the men, all from Dublin, were allegedly in a gang which stole a car in Rathfarnham on Tuesday. They drove to Co Kilkenny, where they broke into a shop and a pub in Goresbridge.

The spokesman said that the raiders then drove to Borris in Co Carlow and broke into a pub. The owner of the pub received hospital treatment for a stab wound.

The gang drove to Graiguenamanagh in Co Kilkenny, where they abandoned the car and stole another one. They then headed for Dublin, pursued by several Garda patrol cars. The stolen car crashed at Ballytore in Co Kildare.
