GARDAÍ AT Nenagh, Co Tipperary last night arrested three men as part of the investigation into the death of a man in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Two men aged 31 and 26 were arrested in the Nenagh area and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act at Thurles and Nenagh respectively. A 28-year-old man was arrested in the Limerick area. The 29-year- old Lithuanian national died from stab wounds to the neck in the course of a row with another foreign national at an apartment in Summerhill, Nenagh.

The deceased, who has not been named, is understood to have been an employee of AIBP Meats, which operates a processing plant on the outskirts of the town. Gardaí­ were called to an apartment at about 3am and found the man being treated by ambulance staff.

Another man who was injured in the row is being treated in the Mid-Western Regional Hospital Limerick. He is believed to have suffered a number of stab wounds to the abdomen.

The men were believed to have been drinking at a Christmas party before an argument broke out.

The scene was preserved throughout yesterday morning as gardaí awaited the arrival of the State Pathologist. A forensic examination of the scene was also carried out by gardaí.

The dead man’s body was later removed to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, where a postmortem examination was carried out.

This is the second fatal stabbing of a foreign national to take place in Nenagh. Latvian national Alexey Pekelman was stabbed to death there in July 2007.
