Three people, including a German man with a Limerick address and a woman, were arrested by garda∅ at Shannon Airport on Saturday afternoon during a protest against the war in Afghanistan.
Shortly after 3 p.m., about 75 men and women, some of them accompanied by children, began what was initially a peaceful protest against aircraft carrying US troops being given landing facilities at Shannon.
Arrests were made when protesters removed barbed-wire fencing leading to the tarmac after spotting soldiers preparing to reboard a World Airways flight which had arrived earlier from Germany with 272 troops on their way back to the US.
