RTE television programmes have won three awards and a special commendation at the Celtic Film and Television Festival in Cornwall, which were announced in Truro last Saturday night.
The Jury Award was won by Prime Time for its special two-part investigation of the bad conditions and insecurity in which Ireland's spiralling number of tenants live.
The programmes, shown last April under the title Behind Closed Doors, were produced by Eddie Doyle and the reporter was David Nally.
The Best Entertainment Award went to Tommy Tiernan's episode of the television series The Green, Green Grass of Home, produced for RTE by the Galway-based independent production company, Power Pictures.
The six-part series took some of Ireland's leading comic talent back to their hometowns to see these places from their point of view.
A Special Commendation went to Leargas for its programme on Meningitis, transmitted in January 2000.
The programme explored how two families coped with the deadly effects of Meningitis and was researched scripted and presented by Pat Butler.
The Education Prize was won by Petra Larez (What Are You Saying?), an animation programme produced by Breton Television with RTE and other co-production partners.
The awards were presented on Saturday in Truro, Cornwall.
