Three people were charged with assault following an incident outside the door of High Court Number Six in Dublin yesterday.
Mr Thomas Kavanagh (33), his wife Ms Joanne Kavanagh (26), both of Knocknarea Avenue, Drimnagh, and Ms Melanie Johnson (27), Derry Park, Crumlin, were charged with assaulting a key witness in another alleged assault case.
They were arrested during a scuffle following an unsuccessful bail application by a brother of Ms Johnson and Ms Kavanagh, Mr Liam Byrne (22), in the High Court yesterday.
Mr Byrne is charged with assaulting a man outside a fast-food shop in Crumlin in April of last year. He has been in custody since his arrest because gardai claim he will interfere with witnesses.
He failed to obtain bail in the High Court yesterday. Shortly after the alleged incident, his sisters and brother-in-law appeared in Dublin District Court before Judge David Anderson.
Judge Anderson released both women on bail on condition that they do not interfere with witnesses. He remanded Mr Kavanagh in custody for a week after hearing he had threatened to kill Det Sgt Joe O'Hara.
