A 67-year-old woman has died following a car crash in Co Mayo yesterday evening.

The woman was the rear seat passenger in the car which collided with another vehicle on the main Westport to Leenane road at Liscarney at around 3.45pm. The male driver and two other passengers were hurt although their injuries were not thought to be serious. The driver of the other car was also injured.

All the injured were taken to Castlebar General Hospital for treatment.

Gardaí have named the woman as Treasa Bagnal of Golf Course Road, Westport, Co Mayo.

Meanwhile, a teenager died today after he was struck by two cars near the City of Derry Airport. The accident happened shortly before 2am on the Clooney Road, Greysteel.

The pedestrian, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the cars were travelling in the opposite direction at the time and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 38-year-old man died after he lost control of his car on a Co Down road.

Colin Niblock was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the Shore Road, Kircubbin around 7am.

Mr Niblock, of Cairndore Road, Newtownards, was travelling alone. A PSNI spokeswoman said no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
