Three people died in separate road accidents yesterday in the Republic. A man aged 65 was killed at 3.30 p.m. when the car he was driving collided with a pick-up truck at Oberstown Cross, near Ardee in Co Louth. The man's wife was critically injured in the accident and the driver of the pick-up truck was said to have suffered a broken leg and a broken arm. Both were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

Earlier, a 36-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle skidded on gravel at Bullockpark at about 2.30 a.m. He was Joseph Roche, single, of Ballybannon, Milford, Carlow. A Garda spokesman said he died at the scene. No other vehicle was involved in the accident. In Co Galway, a woman (20) died when the car in which she was rear seat passenger hit a wall at Ardrahan, near Gort, at about 2 a.m. She was Eileen Lee of Rakerin, Gort.
