Three IT-related companies based in counties Carlow, Cork and Galway have today announced new jobs.
Security monitoring firm Netwatch is to create 50 new jobs at its new headquarters and command centre in Carlow town.
The announcement was made by Taoiseach Brian Cowen at the opening of the new centre this morning.
The facility is located in a former Irish Sugar premises and represents an investment of more than €5 million by the company.
The new jobs, which are in operations and research and developement, will be phased in over the next 18 months.
Netwatch currently employs 70 people in Carlow.
The company, which has clients in Ireland, Britain, the US, Spain and South Africa, remotely monitors security cameras that are connected to its command centre. Software systems built into the cameras analyse the images and notify staff in Carlow of suspicious activity.
Elsewhere, Cork Internet Exchange said today it is to create ten high skilled post graduate jobs in software and networking at its data centre in Holyhill.
In addition, HID Global, a company which makes electronic identity and access cards, has announced a major expansion at its Connemara-based facility.
HID said it is going to increase the number of employees it has by approximately 22 per cent as part of the €5 million expansion which is supported by Údarás na Gaeltachta.
Although the company refused to confirm the exact number of employees it intends to take on, it is believed that about 40 new positions will be created bringing the total number of staff at the Co Galway based facility to about 230.
