Three people have been treated in hospital after a car was attacked by a group of people in Co Longford this afternoon.
The attack happened at around 1.10pm on the Dublin road on the outskirts of Longford town.
The three men were hurt when the car they were travelling in was halted by gunfire from a van on the side of the road. Two of the occupants sustained pellet shot wounds.
A number of men got of out of the van and continued the attack in which one of the three in the car sustained a slash wound to the hand. All three were taken to Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar.
It is understood the attack is linked to a long-standing feud between two Traveller families in the area. Gardaí are investigating.
The van used in the attack was described as blue with red writing on the side.
