Three people have been killed and seven injured in separate road accidents overnight in Co Carlow, Co Longford and Co Meath.
A 16-year-old girl was killed and six others seriously injured when the car she was a passenger in collided with a taxi at Ballyminnion, Co Longford.
The incident happened on the main N5 shortly after 3.25am.
The driver of the taxi was taken to St James Hospital suffering serious leg injuries. The other passenger was taken to Mullingar and is also seriously injured.
Gardaí said the driver of the other car is in a critical condition in Mullingar hospital. Three other passengers, all believed to be in their teens, were also taken to hospital.
Earlier, an 82-year-old man was killed when his car struck a horse at Wells, Muinebheag, Co Carlow. The incident happened at 10.45pm and no one else was involved.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man was killed when the car he was driving went out of control and hit a pole at Cloneymeath, Summerhill, Co Meath.
A 19-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to hopsital with serious injuries.
The incident happened shortly after 8pm.
