A police chief and two civilians were killed in two bomb blasts in north-western Pakistan today.

City police chief Ata Ullah said an area police chief, Khaista Khan, and his driver died when the bomb went off near his vehicle in Peshawar.

He said the attack happened about two hours after a bomb exploded near a vehicle on the outskirts of Peshawar, killing one civilian and wounding three others.

Police are investigating the attacks.

Peshawar is the capital of restive Pakistan's North West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan. Pro-Taliban militants often target security forces in the province.
