Three people were killed in road accidents in the Republic yesterday. Gardaí in Killarney, Co Kerry, were last night making efforts to contact the relatives of a woman and her young daughter who were killed when their car was in collision with another vehicle yesterday afternoon.

The accident occurred on the Cork road about five miles from the town.

The woman, believed to be from Cork and in her late 20s or early 30s, and her daughter, aged between three and four years, were travelling towards Killarney when their car was involved in a collission with a jeep.

A man in his 20s was killed and a woman was critically injured in an accident in Co Cavan yesterday morning.

The man was later named as Mr Noel McPartlin, from Dowra.

The accident happened at 12.55 yesterday when a car was in collision with a parked lorry at Carronmore, Ballyconnell.

The man and woman, both occupants of the car, were taken to Cavan General Hospital, where the man died later.

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 19 years, were killed in a road accident near Downpatrick, Co Down, last Friday night.

The car in which they were travelling went out of control on the Ardglass Road, near Downpatrick.

The vehicle clipped the roadside verge and careered into a wall before rolling on to its roof.

Their deaths bring to 30 the number of people killed on the roads in Northern Ireland so far this year.
